BGSU 1910: FIRST YEAR SEMINAR – FALL 2019
MEET THE DOCUMENT:
Boycott Update, Farm Labor Organizing Committee, Vol. 1, No. 1, March 26, 1979.
OBSERVE ITS PARTS:
The Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC) published the Boycott Update. They produced an update to inform the public about the unfair labor practices of Libby’s and Campbell’s companies against migrant workers.
TRY TO MAKE SENSE OF IT:
The articles in the update focused on Libby’s and Campbell’s companies’ unfair treatment of migrant workers. Both companies refused to negotiate wages and working conditions for the migrant workers. The union called for a boycott of their products. Also, they called on the public to “write Campbell’s soup, and Libby’s telling them you support the boycott.”
USE IT AS HISTORICAL EVIDENCE:
I found out about the injustices that migrant workers faced in Ohio. It provided historical evidence I could use to help me understand the struggles of migrant workers and FLOC.
