BGSU 1910: FIRST YEAR SEMINAR – FALL 2019

MEET THE DOCUMENT:

Food Stamps For Seasonal Farmworkers And Migrant Families. Children Foundation, July 1972.

OBSERVE ITS PARTS:

The Children Foundation wrote the brochure in July 1972 in Kentucky. The intended audience for this brochure was farm workers and migrant families because this helped them to gain food assistance that they possibly could’ve needed.

TRY TO MAKE SENSE OF IT:

The brochure is about the different qualifications, details, and information about food stamps and how they work. It helped the migrants and farm workers obtain food stamp assistance without their legal status being questioned. It was a step that began to support the recognition of migrants and how they’re people too. It was beneficial to get help from the government, not just good civilians.

USE IT AS HISTORICAL EVIDENCE:

I didn’t know that this was allowed. I always thought people could only obtain food stamps if they were citizens. In 1965, the Hart-Celler Act was why this came to be. The act helped open entry to migrants; by doing so, they were bound to need assistance. The law helped them gain a little more of the rights they should’ve had in the first place.
