BGSU 1910: FIRST YEAR SEMINAR – FALL 2019
MEET THE DOCUMENT:
“Charges Against 22 Protester Dropped.” BG News, May 28, 1980.
OBSERVE ITS PARTS:
Paula Winslow wrote the article for the BG News. It was published to inform the local public about the outcome of students involved in the LSU protest on campus.
TRY TO MAKE SENSE OF IT:
The article focuses on the student’s involvement with the LSU protest on campus, whose charges were dropped. It gave factual information on the whole situation. The author stated, “The charges, which had been reduced from a 4th-degree misdemeanor to minor misdemeanors, were dropped so attention would be focused on the students’ concerns rather than their arrests.”
USE IT AS HISTORICAL EVIDENCE:
The article taught me that even though Bowling Green is very forward-thinking now, the past was a bit different. To understand those events more deeply, I would use other articles relating to these students and how they would make amends for what they did to the students.
