MEET THE DOCUMENT:
This document describes a fashion show that takes place in Toledo, Ohio. The folkorico dance group is called Imagenes Mexicanos, and they run under the direction of Andrella Serratos. The document describes that the dance group is bringing their culture of Mexico around the world.
OBSERVE ITS PARTS:
This archive is a newspaper clipping. There wasn’t anything specific in the article to tell me where it was from, but I assume it is a Toledo Blade news clipping since this took place in Toledo. Everyone subscribed to the newspaper at this time, received it, and read it. This is from 1994-1995. It is a bit more contemporary than my other archives. It fits the period of society starting to become a little more open-minded towards different cultures.
TRY TO MAKE SENSE OF IT:
The documents talk about the cultural fashion show in Toledo, Ohio. The folkorico dance group would dress up in colorful costumes and do dances from their Mexican culture. I believe the author wrote this to persuade people to come and see the show. Many fashion shows were happening in 1995. However, this was the first time a fashion specific to a culture was put on. This was big for Ohio in 1995, especially considering it has always been a red state.
USE IT AS HISTORICAL EVIDENCE:
I didn’t know this occurred here, and I was thrilled to find it. I will use two other archives that are very similar to this one. All the events built off each other, and I didn’t know any took place. It was awesome to find them.
